I am still working on this myself so my answer may not be the best. You gain confidence in many different ways just really doing things. Actions help you gain confidence. Trying new things, learning, growing all should help with confidence. You could try writing a list of all your strengths and weaknesses, then make another list and rewrite your weaknesses but this time take out all perjorative terms, derogatory or negative words, make them more like facts. I.e. if your have a big nose or large buck teeth say I have a prominent nose or a large smile. Then rewrite your strengths but really elaborate on them, boast about yourself. Then make a whole new description of yourself without using the negative weaknesses descriptione and your elongated strength list. Reread this list until youbstary to believe it more. Confidence is all inside you already, we just tend to forget it. If you have a hobby you are good at like art maybe dwell into that more. Any sports you are good at practice them more. If you can get into a feeling of flow it is said to help you feel better or more confident. You could try faking it like the other person said but I mean you are faking it so that wouldn’t work long term. In some cases even trying something new and failing can help build confidence. You have to fail at some things to know what true success feels like. Most just realize you are a beautiful person inside and out. You are worth it. Just believe that. Belief can be half the battle.
Standing up to people is another battle, try starting small like a not so agressive person or maybe a parent or friend. Once you get past that fear hump it should become easier to stand up for yourself more.
Not for everyone so I can’t fully recommend it but what started me on gaining confidence was the practice of witchcraft. I say it’s not for everyone because it’s truly a life long journey of self empowerment and growing. Working with the ebbs and flows of the universe’s energy to better yourself. More specifically women’s self empowerment.
”Why is it hard for me to stand up for myself?”
If you find it difficult standing up for yourself, you’re probably out of touch with your own needs – and overly attuned to other people’s. When this happens, you leave yourself wide open to being taken advantage of.
It can be hard for someone to stand up for themselves when they feel like they don’t have the resources or the support to do so. They may feel like they’re not good enough or like they’re not important enough. They may also feel like they’re not able to handle the situation or that they’re not in control. All of these factors can make it hard for someone to take action and stand up for themselves.
Does standing up for yourself build confidence?
Standing up for yourself shows that your self worth is high. And even if you haven’t yet been able to be assertive, once you start, you will feel more confident and that will help you feel more important and lead to higher self-worth.

Take deep breaths. Use “I” statements to reduce defensiveness. Speak firmly and deliberately. Pretend you’re acting and everyone else is an actor too. Use quick tricks to ward off the tears. Stand up tall.
There are a few ways to stand up for yourself without crying. First, you can try to think about what you want and try to communicate that to the other person. For example, you can say something like, “I would like to discuss this further, but I need time to think about what I want.” Second, you can try to stay calm and collected. This will help you to stay in control and not let the other person get to you. Finally, you can try to think about what you would do if the situation were reversed and the other person was trying to push your buttons. This can help you to stay calm and not react emotionally.

Practicing Assertive Communication. Recognize the difference between assertive and aggressive responses. Being assertive means you stand up for yourself and share your thoughts and feelings with others. You do not want to hurt others with your words.
It can be difficult to stand up for ourselves without hurting others. However, it is important to remember that we are not responsible for the actions of others. We should always do what we feel is best for ourselves, regardless of what others may think or do. We should also be careful not to react emotionally or lash out at others. We should speak our mind and stand up for what we believe in, but do so in a respectful manner. Ultimately, it is up to each individual to make the decisions that are best for them.
How do you fight for yourself?
Ask for what you want and need. You have the right to request what you want and need. Don’t settle for less. We are taught to be okay with less than what we want and need rather than asking for more. Stop tolerating. Don’t play small to get along. Love yourself enough to say yes…and no.
When it comes to self-defense, there are a few things you can do to help protect yourself. First, be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you see or hear something suspicious, don’t hesitate to alert authorities. Second, stay calm and composed. If you start to feel anxious or threatened, your adrenaline will spike, which will make you more susceptible to attack. Finally, know your fight or flight response. This is the physiological response that kicks in when you’re in danger. The fight response is usually characterized by increased heart rate, respiration, and blood pressure. The flight response is usually characterized by a decrease in heart rate, respiration, and blood pressure. Knowing how to use these responses to your advantage is key in self-defense.
