Is it possible that you are confusing Intellect and Intelligence with maturity?
I as a child hung out with adults and had long conversations with them because kids my age could not converse with me on my level and I would get bored with their level.
Now that I am much older I have my conversations with the younger generation because they are so much more intellect than even I.
They have way more resources for knowledge than I had in my younger years.
No I was not the life of the party nor did I ever go out very much.
I did not drink or do drugs and I wanted to wait for marriage for sex.
So I instead worked on myself through education and career.
Best wishes
