You have that. Now, what gets you out there? I think the best initiator is a calendar. Hang one by your bathroom mirror. However, for the calendar to work, you must make a real decision to address your desire.
Do you really want to go outside? Why? What does it do for you?
If you can answer that question and the answer is something bigger than “I don’t know, I just think it might be nice…” (or something like that) — then you might have named some greater factors that will maintain your motivation. Things more like “I want to experience life and outdoors”, “Life in a box is unnatural, uninspiring”, “Health and mind are invigorated whenever I spend time outdoors”, etc. And combined with your gut feeling that going out is a good idea, now you might have deeper and stronger feelings and motivation.
Hopefully, that will be enough to clear some time on the calendar. We all have the same amount of time, but we fill it with different things as need dictates.
Next, you need to “find” time. Motivation will not be enough by itself, you need scheduled time.
The calendar is important because it participates in moving from thinking to deciding. Once you have made a decision that you can put on your calendar, you schedule it like other things that are important enough to be on your calendar, you have a greater chance of sticking to it.
Now you are at the last step. Commitment.
You can have nice thoughts, motivations, desires, and goals and even put them on the calendar but the ones you act on are those you make a true commitment to. That will mean sacrificing one thing for another. If you are motivated and the reasons you can attribute towards that desire are enough to make it a true decision (it’s on your calendar now, daily, weekly, monthly, or whatever you decided is realistic), you have to make a true commitment. That means you are going to say no to things that try to disrupt your plan. Examples are: staying up too late; doing less important things that rob you of your ability or your time to stick to your commitment; social media.
Commitment ensures you are going to stick to your plan in all cases except true emergencies or high and more important interruptions from the outside (not you/inside and not planned activity).
Do these things, get the calendar, decide, commit and your motivation and goal will have a good chance to be forever maintained.
Also, don’t overthink it. Don’t worry if there are times when it doesn’t work. Just keep showing up. Even if you don’t know or are not sure (you are overthinking it) just take the first step. Knowing you can always cut it short or ‘go back in’, you can still consider it a victory. Whenever I just “show up for my plan”, I feel I’m halfway there because most often, showing up is the hard part of the brain’s ‘motivation process’. Once I’m there, the reasons and decisions that brought me there, and being committed to those, are now going to kick in, and I have a good chance to accomplish what is important and can be done.
