What One Change Dramatically Improved Your Health

I had my first colonoscopy at the age of 50 and it revealed a polyp. A polyp is a benign growth and I was told to watch and monitor it. I followed all the advice and my polyp remained stable for 10 years. In January of 2014, my polyp became inflamed and I underwent a colonoscopy again. This time, my doctor removed the polyp and I was immediately given antibiotics. A few days later, I developed a fever and chills and was taken to the ER. It was determined that I had contracted meningitis and I was immediately given antibiotics and a course of corticosteroids. The corticosteroids completely reversed the meningitis and I was released from the hospital a few days later. Although I was very sick, the meningitis completely improved my health. I now know that if I had not had my colonoscopy in 2014, I may have suffered a much more serious illness.

My health dramatically improved when I made the decision to stop eating processed foods and to start eating more whole foods. I started to feel better physically and mentally, and my blood pressure and cholesterol levels lowered. I also lost weight and my skin became less oily.

I used to be really stressed out, and because of that, it was virtually impossible for me to lose weight. I didn’t know how to handle my stress and allowed it to take over my life. Without realizing it, I let it get the best of me. I ended up getting a migraine for three days straight and decided to call in sick. That’s when it hit me. I took some time off from work and began to rewrite my lifestyle habits until they better fit me as an individual.
Also I began taking yoga classes. I specifically chose a form that includes asana, pranayama, kriya and meditation. I have seen dramatic improvements in my physical health since then: my flexibility has improved vastly, and my stamina during physical activity has dramatically increased.
It’s not about what you eat or how much you exercise, but about a much more important idea…why humans are so easily distracted. And why this is often the cause of physical problems.
